Plasma Circulating Cell-free Nuclear and Mitochondrial DNA as Potential Blood Biomarkers for Breast Cancer

چکیده
Incidence rates of breast cancer are rising and mortality rates are proportionally high in Arab countries compared to rates in developed countries. The common late diagnosis among Arab women has been related to the low participation rates of Arab women in breast cancer screening activities (Donnelly et al., 2012). In Egypt, breast cancer is still considered number one killing cancer in females despite increased general awareness of the disease. Dubey et al, reported that the incidence of breast cancer in Egypt at 2012 was 18,660 newly diagnosed cases and out of this the mortality rates was estimated at 7,161. This indicated the fact that the situation of breast cancer in Egypt is almost worst like India (Dubey et al., 2015). In breast cancer, the role of serum markers is less well established. The most widely used serum markers are CA 15-3 and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) (Banin et al., 2014). CA 15-3 is elevated in 69% of advanced breast cancer cases; its role in cancer screening is limited, being elevated in other malignancies including pancreatic (Hampton, 2007), ovarian (Zachariah et al., 2008), lung

Circulating miR-92a, miR-143 and miR-342 in Plasma are Novel Potential Biomarkers for Acute Myeloid Leukemia
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that function as post-transcriptional gene expression regulators. The expression profiling of miRNAs has already entered into cancer clinics as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers to assess tumor initiation, progression and response to treatment in cancer patients. Recent Studies opened the way for the use of circulating miRNAs as non-invasive diagn...
متن کاملA Review of the Function of Circulating Cell Free miRNAs as Promising Biomarkers in Cancer Diagnosis, Treatment, and Metastasis
Cell Free miRNAs are small, non-coding molecules that can be secreted into the bloodstream in very stable forms. These types of miRNAs, like intracellular miRNAs, participate in the control of many biological processes and are expressed in both natural and pathological conditions. Quantitative and qualitative changes in expression of circulating miRNAs are associated with the onset and progress...
متن کاملCell-free circulating DNA integrity is an independent predictor of impending breast cancer recurrence
Non-invasive blood-based molecule markers are evaluated as promising biomarkers these days. Here we investigated the potential of cell-free circulating DNA Integrity (cfDI) as blood-based marker for the prediction of recurrence during the follow-up of breast cancer patients within a prospective study cohort. cfDI was determined in plasma of 212 individuals, by measuring ALU and LINE1 repetitive...
متن کاملMutations in circulating mitochondrial DNA: Cassandra of oral cancer?
Cell-free circulating nucleic acids in human blood are increasing being researched as a source of diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for clinical oncology. High copy number per cell and frequent mutations in various malignancies make mitochondrial genome an attractive target for such an investigation, but practical development and validation of biomarkers based on cell-free mitochondrial DNA ...
متن کاملDetection of Methylated Circulating DNA as Noninvasive Biomarkers for Breast Cancer Diagnosis
Internationally, breast cancer is the most common female cancer, and is induced by a combination of environmental, genetic, and epigenetic risk factors. Despite the advancement of imaging techniques, invasive sampling of breast epithelial cells is the only definitive diagnostic procedure for patients with breast cancer. To date, molecular biomarkers with high sensitivity and specificity for the...
